Today, MLB has handed down its first suspension related to the Biogenesis scandal. Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun has accepted a 65-game suspension that will keep him off the field for the remainder of the 2013 MLB season. Braun will not appeal the suspension, as he did successfully between the 2011 and 2012 seasons. It is unclear to what extent Biogenesis is related to Braun’s positive test during the 2011 playoffs, and it’s also unclear if we will ever find out.
Surely, more suspensions are coming soon for at least some of the many players that were linked to Biogenesis and/or Tony Bosch. This could be an eventful week or two for Major League Baseball.
